HYPNOTHERAPY

Hypnosis is a controversial tool used in therapy (still).

But it's there and it's been used since 500 BC and it can, and does make people feel better. 

Right. Now that's out of the way.

How do we think it works?

Hypnosis is a focussed state of concentration; for some that may be through relaxation, for others, through conversation and natural focus. Depending on what you feel most comfortable with.

Imagine that you are watching a really fab film and, before you know it, time has whizzed by, or if you're at the cinema, before the film begins you notice the sounds of everyone eating and rustling packets etc but as soon as you become submerged into the characters and plot of the film, you notice nothing other than the film. Great eh?

Hypnotherapy (when it's practiced well) is simply that experience- a focus with a deep, anticipated concentration.

So often we have that internal fight of knowing what to do for our best, but for some reason, we just can't do it. 

Hypnotherapy talks to that 'just can't do it' voice in our heads, to enable us to just do it.

Where's the trick? (it's totally expected to be suspicious of the unknown).

The trick (unlike stage hypnosis) is in the therapists' learning; it is our job to help you feel comfortable and at ease, to be ready to talk about what is going on for you and then explain how hypnosis can work for you, by understanding how YOU work.

The trick? The trick is understanding people. That's all.

You will always have control during all of your sessions, the reason that you're there is to gain MORE control - not experience less.

The people involved in stage hypnosis (yes it's real, but with so much more backstage learning and work) such as the Derren Brown stuff, the people who volunteer to stand up are people who WANT to lose control - That is the vast difference between stage work and therapy work.

Finally, most importantly, a good Hypnotherapist will have a Code of Conduct they follow, a crucial aspect is that the client's needs are the most important, and therefore we work with you best interests in mind, and within the trust that is vital to any change work.
