Healing Complex Trauma with Compassionate Support and Hypnotherapy

We all do understand that trauma isn’t always a single event. Sometimes, it’s a series of painful experiences that build up over time -subtle or overt, prolonged or recurring - and that ongoing persistence can leave behind deep emotional wounds. This is what defines complex trauma.

If you're feeling emotionally stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself, and you don’t know who you are any more and there’s just something not right and you can’t put your finger on it, because, well, everything is good enough. You don’t have to be on your own with it. Reclaiming yourself is possible -and you deserve support that’s kind, gentle, and tailored to your needs to get there.

What is Complex Trauma?

Complex trauma (also known as C-PTSD) develops from repeated or long-term exposure to traumatic situations, often during childhood or within relationships where safety, trust, and autonomy were compromised.

Common sources of complex trauma include:

  • Emotional, physical, or sexual abuse

  • Childhood neglect or abandonment

  • Growing up with a parent who struggled with mental health or addiction

  • Witnessing domestic violence

  • Living in a persistently unsafe or unstable environment

Unlike single-incident trauma, complex trauma often impacts your sense of identity, relationships, emotional regulation, and body awareness. You may not always have a clear memory of the events -but the effects are real and ongoing.

Signs and Symptoms of Complex Trauma

You might notice:

  • Feeling numb, detached, or shut down

  • Struggling with intense emotions like rage, shame, or fear

  • Difficulty trusting others or feeling close in relationships

  • Chronic anxiety, depression, or low self-worth

  • Physical symptoms like fatigue, headaches, or stomach issues with no clear cause

  • A sense of “not feeling like yourself” or being chronically on edge

These symptoms can be confusing and overwhelming. They can also show up years after the original trauma. But with the right support, your nervous system can begin to feel safe again—and healing can start to take root.

Why Hypnotherapy for Complex Trauma?

While talking therapies can be extremely helpful, they can sometimes fall short when trauma is held deeper in the body or right down deep in the depths of the mind. That’s where hypnotherapy can be a powerful and gentle complement.

Hypnotherapy works by accessing the deeper part of our mind, where many of the beliefs, memories, and survival strategies shaped by trauma reside. It allows you to bypass the logical, analytical part of the mind and gently explore and reframe emotional patterns from a deeper level.

Benefits of Hypnotherapy for Complex Trauma:

  • Access emotional roots without re-traumatisation

  • Reprogram limiting beliefs that stem from early trauma

  • Calm the nervous system and support emotional regulation

  • Create and grow safety, confidence, and connection from within

  • Feel more in control of your healing process

Needless to say (but sometimes it’s important to read it), hypnotherapy is used with care, compassion, and consent -tailoring the process to your pace and comfort level.

Self-Reflection check list: Could You Be Living with Complex Trauma?

This short check list can help you reflect on whether complex trauma might be something you're living with. It’s not a diagnosis -but it can be a helpful insight for a starting point.

Do any of the following resonate with you?

  1. I often feel like my emotions are “too much” or hard to manage.

  2. I struggle to trust others or feel truly safe in relationships.

  3. I carry a deep sense of shame or guilt that I can’t explain.

  4. I feel numb or disconnected from myself and the world.

  5. I have strong reactions to things that others don’t seem affected by.

  6. I often feel like I’m “on edge” or waiting for something bad to happen.

  7. I experience unexplained physical symptoms like pain or fatigue.

If several of these feel familiar, it might be worth exploring your experience with someone who understands trauma—someone who can walk alongside you without judgment.
